生 平 對 語 言 特 別 執 的 人 ， 做 老 師 也 好 、 做 編 輯 也 好 ， 離 開 崗 位 或 退 休 後 ， 在 文 字 上 斤 斤 計 較 的 習 慣 ，不 會 改 變 。 語 言 文 字 是 他 們 的 終 生 事 業 ， 不 為 甚 麼 ， 就 為 了 個 人 興 趣 。 中 國 人 對 漢語 的 關 心 ， 理 所 當 然 ， 因 為 這 是 我 們 母 體 文 化 的 一 部 份 。 但 我 們 對 外 語 ， 就 說 英 文吧 ， 會 不 會 一 樣 關 心 ？
我 想 到 我 的 老 師 吳 魯 芹 。 上 世 紀 五 十 年 代 中 我 在 台 灣 唸 書 ， 魯 芹 先 生 在 美 國 新 聞 處 任 職 ， 公 餘 到 台 大 外 文 系 part-time 。 他 文 學 批 評 和 翻 譯 ， 因 此 可 以 說 不 論 是 正 職 或 兼 差 ， 無 時 無 刻 不 在 英 語 世 界 打 滾 。 七九 年 退 休 美 國 ， 除 了 上 街 買 菜 和 跟 鄰 居 打 交 道 時 非 要 用 「 蠻 兒 語 」 外 ， 其 餘 時 間 在家 ， 大 可 抱 《 夜 雨 秋 燈 錄 》 或 《 閱 微 草 堂 筆 記 》 過 日 子 。
誰 料 當 過 多 年 英 文 老 師 的 吳 魯 芹 授 ， 在 學 生 習 作 挑 骨 頭 的 習 慣 難 改 。 他 不 但 追 看 美 國 的 報 章 雜 誌 和 流 行 小 說 ， 也 一 本 正 經 的 做 筆 記 ， 終 於 把 手 上 資 料 湊 在 一 起 ， 以 〈 救 救 英 文 〉 為 題 寫 了 近 八 千 字 ， 一 一 數 落 「墮 落 」 的 美 國 英 文 各 種 不 是 。 「 外 戚 干 政 」 ？ 聽 來 有 點 像 呢 ， 怪 不 得 他 在 文 前 引 了南 唐 中 主 李 璟 句 「 吹 皺 一 池 春 水 ， 干 卿 底 事 ？ 」 作 小 標 題 。 英 文 的 死 活 榮 枯 ， 是 人家 的 瓦 上 霜 ， 何 用 吳 授 煩 心 ？ 他 說 這 完 全 是 出 於 一 個 「 私 」 心 理 由 ：
像 我 這 樣 年 紀 的 人 ， … … 當 年 開 始 寫 英 文 ， 真 是 『 苦 交易 』 。 凡 是 貧 苦 出 身 的 人 ， 對 他 辛 苦 積 下 來 的 一 點 點 家 當 ， 必 定 加 倍 珍 惜 … … 我 們比 較 認 真 ， 對 好 的 也 特 別 珍 惜 ， 近 年 看 到 英 文 被 一 批 敗 家 子 弄 到 如 此 百 孔 千 瘡 ， 雖然 是 他 人 瓦 上 霜 ， 於 心 仍 不 免 戚 戚 然 。
美 國 英 文 怎 麼 墮 落 ？ 第 一 個 給 吳 授 拿 出 來 「 示 眾 」 的 是 Gay Talese ， 他 寫 了 暢 銷 書 《 Thy Neighbor's Wife 》 。吳 魯 芹 譯 為 《 隔 鄰 羅 敷 》 。 Talese 不 但 是 職 業 作 家 ， 而 且 還 有 一 位 在 文 字 上 絕 對可 以 幫 忙 的 賢 內 助 Nan Talese 。 這 位 太 太 是 Simon and Schuster 大 出 版 社 的 高 級編 輯 。 《 隔 鄰 羅 敷 》 的 原 稿 ， 是 經 她 過 目 後 才 送 到 另 一 家 大 公 司 Doubleday 的 高 級編 輯 Betty Prashker 手 上 的 。
照 理 說 ， 一 人 計 短 ， 二 人 計 長 ， 這 本 小 說 最 少 在 文 法 上 不 應 有 沙 石 的 。 實 情 可 不 是 這 樣 。 吳 授 舉 了 這 一 句 ： Bullaro would sometimes peddle alone for 15 miles.
授 把 上 文 下 義 拼 起 來 讀 ， 覺 得 不 可 思 議 。 Peddle 者 ， 沿 街 叫 賣 也 。 但 在 context 內 的 Bullaro ， 明 明 是 「 踩 」 腳 踏 車 ， 因 此 他 踩 十 五 里 的 踩 是 pedal ， 而 不 是 peddle 。 Bullaro 不 是 做 零 售 生 意 的 人 。
好 吧 ， 這 種 情 形 可 以 推 說 是 「 手 民 之 誤 」 ， 但 吳 授 接 下 來 舉 的 兩 個 惡 例 ， 怎 樣 也 賴 不 掉 ： Turning the corner, the view was much changed.
這種 句 子 ， 譯 成 中 文 ， 漂 亮 極 了 ： 「 轉 了 彎 ， 景 色 就 大 不 同 了 。 」 但 從 英 文 文 法 來 看， 大 作 家 犯 了 連 中 學 生 也 不 該 犯 的 錯 誤 ： 這 是 個 沒 有 主 詞 的 dangling sentence 。景 物 留 收 眼 底 ， 才 知 是 否 山 河 有 異 。 誰 發 覺 景 色 不 同 了 ？ 吳 授 因 此 代 為 捉 刀 ， 根 據 context ， 把 句 子 改 為 ：
Turning the corner, he discovered that the view was much changed.
Talese 「 墮 落 」 的 罪 證 多 多 ， 再 看 一 個 吧 ： "After completing high school in 1949, his sister wrote that she had arranged for him an appointment to Annapolis."
吳 魯 芹 讀 過 《 隔 鄰 羅 敷 》 原 著 ， 知 道 作 者 想 說 的 是 弟 弟 在 一 九 四九 年 高 中 畢 業 後 ， 姐 姐 託 人 安 排 他 進 海 軍 官 校 。 但 看 句 子 ， 你 搞 不 清 楚 這 種 關 係 。你 會 以 為 在 一 九 四 九 年 畢 業 的 是 姐 姐 、 或 妹 妹 。 吳 授 沒 有 替 這 惡 例 捉 刀 改 正 ， 我 只 好 毛 遂 自 薦 了 。 在 盡 量 保 留 原 文 的 原 則 下 ， 只 消 改動 第 一 句 就 成 ： After he completed high school in 1949 或 after his completion of high school in 1949.
什 麼 叫 dangling sentence 呢 ？ 半 吊 句子 就 是 。 除 了 文 法 錯 誤 屢 見 不 鮮 外 ， 美 國 人 蹧 蹋 英 文 的 例 子 也 比 比 皆 是 。 吳 魯 芹 引了 一 些 Edwin Newman 所 舉 的 例 子 ， 讀 來 人 怪 難 為 情 的 。 Newman 說 美 國 名 牌 大 報 如 《 華 盛 頓 郵 報 》 ， 設 在 首 善 之 區 ， 讀 者 不 少 是 外 國 名 流 政 要 ， 照 理 說 英 文 水 準 不 應 差 到 哪 吧 ？
可是 Newman 常 常 看 到 丟 人 現 眼 的 例 子 。 譬 如 說 ， 他 就 搞 不 懂 把 一 匹 獨 一 無 二 的 賽 馬說 成 uniquely one of a kind ， 因 為 這 句 話 用 中 文 來 說 ， 就 是 「 獨 一 無 二 的 獨 一無 二 」 。
這 些 不 合 邏 輯 的 英 文 句 子 ， 我 在 香 港 也 常 常 看 到 。 用 得 最 濫 的 是 ： one of the best 和 most unique 。 連 most perfect 的 話 也 聽 說 過 。 Perfect 是「 完 美 」 。 完 美 就 是 完 美 了 ， 不 是 完 美 的 就 不 能 稱 為 完 美 了 ， 是 不 是 ？ 哪 有 更 完 美、 最 完 美 的 ？ 床 架 屋 跟 裝 腔 作 勢 一 樣 令 人 討 厭 ， 也 是 造 成 英 文 墮 落 的 原 因 。 水 門 事 件 後 ， 尼 克 遜總 統 給 記 者 窮 追 不 捨 。 能 夠 躲 的 ， 他 都 躲 ， 差 遣 幕 僚 代 替 他 走 到 台 前 。 這 些 幕 僚 說廢 話 的 本 領 ， 確 是 登 峰 造 極 。 Mr Nixon wanted to evaluate and make a judgment in terms of a response.
「 尼 克 遜 先 生 需 要 衡 量 一 下 並 以 回 應 的 方 式 作 一 判 斷 」？ 這 是 什 麼 鬼 話 ！ 但 幕 僚 若 是 直 截 了 當 的 說 「 尼 克 遜 先 生 需 要 時 間 考 慮 」 ， Mr Nixon needed time to think ， 那 就 不 會 收 到 混 淆 視 聽 的 效 果 ， 聽 來 就 不 像 官 話了 。
在 今 日 美 語 諸 多 罪 行 中 ， 令 Newman 感 到 如 芒 在 背 的 是 以 作 家 故 弄 玄 虛 的作 風 ， 明 明 可 以 簡 簡 單 單 說 清 楚 的 話 ， 他 們 卻 偏 要 用 「 科 學 」 之 名 鋪 蓋 起 來 。 像 「這 條 魚 死 了 」 這 麼 簡 單 一 件 事 吧 ， 他 們 是 不 會 「 這 條 魚 死 了 」 這 麼 說 的 。 人 人 都 聽得 懂 ， 對 你 就 不 會 有 敬 意 了 。 怎 麼 說 呢 ？ 你 聽 吧 ： The aquatic fauna exhibited 100-per-cent mortality ， 這 條 水 生 動 物 已 進 入 百 分 之 一 百 的 死 亡 狀 況 。
值得 我 們 注 意 的 是 ， 專 門 挑 剔 美 國 人 英 文 的 ， 有 不 少 是 「 外 國 人 」 。 像 在 老 牌 雜 誌 《 Esquire 》 寫 專 欄 的 John Simon ， 原 是 前 南 斯 拉 夫 人 ， 十 四 五 歲 才 移 民 美 國 。 到美 國 前 就 通 曉 四 種 歐 洲 語 言 ， 但 英 文 是 做 了 新 移 民 後 才 學 的 。 他 在 《 Esquire 》 寫了 三 年 稿 ， 擺 明 陣 勢 對 看 到 的 、 聽 到 的 「 墮 落 」 文 字 重 炮 轟 擊 ， 對 象 包 括 電 視 、 英語 師 協 會 、 整 天 mumble Po Mo Babble 的 大 學 授 、 黑 人 和 少 數 民 族 「 方 言 羼 雜 」 的 英 語 。
Simon 先 生 對 英 語 「 處 處 憐 芳 草 」 的 因 ， 大 概 跟 吳 魯 芹 授 差 不 多 ： 辛 苦 學 來 的 外 語 ， 猶 如 血 汗 積 蓄 下 來 的 家 當 ， 不 忍 胡 亂 蹧 蹋 。 認 識 到 Simon 這 種 心 態 ， 就 不 難 了 解 他 對 英 文 的 愛 護 ， 比 英 國 人 還 英 國 人 。 因 此 他 對 Newman 拿 「 玩 忽 」 的 口 吻 去 笑 話 美 式 英 文 各 種 不 是 ， 頗 有 微 詞 。 用 吳 授 的 原 文 說 ， Simon 認 為 「 當 一 種 美 麗 、 重 要 的 文 字 被 人 蹧 蹋 到 這 種 地 步 ， 是 不 能 用 開 玩 笑 的 態 度 去 對 付 的 ， 應 該 氣 憤 、 痛 斥 才 對 。 」
Simon 說 整 個 美 國 英 語 墮 落 的 問 題 就 像 一 個 七 層 的 大 蛋 糕 ， 底 層 是 全 國 人 民 對 文 法 的 無 知。 如 果 Talese 唸 書 時 有 過 最 基 本 的 文 法 訓 練 ， 就 不 會 寫 出 「 無 頭 公 案 」 的 句 子 。如 果 人 家 問 Simon 為 什 麼 他 對 文 字 如 此 執 ， 他 會 說 ， 語 言 文 字 是 一 種 藝 術 ， 需 要 有 靈 魂 、 精 神 和 感 染 力 。 甚 至 可 以 說 需 要 的是 一 種 「 高 貴 感 」 。 雖 然 他 口 誅 筆 伐 「 破 英 文 」 不 遺 餘 力 ， 私 底 下 他 也 知 道 ， 大 勢已 去 ， 補 天 無 術 了 。 用 他 自 己 的 話 、 魯 芹 授 的 譯 文 來 說 ： 「 文 字 語 言 的 墮 落 ， 一 如 通 貨 膨 脹 ， 通 貨 膨 脹 是 無 法 制 止 的 。 」 在 這 方 面 ， 他 比 Newman 悲 觀 多 了 。
Simon 的 思 想 是 patrician ， 貴 族 的 。 說 話 的 腔 調 像 Cassandra ， 一 天 到 晚 「 天 國 近 了 、 天 國 近 了 」 的 呼 喊 ， 難 怪 一 些 《 Esquire 》 的 讀 者 受 不 了 他 的 「 烏 鴉 嘴 」 ， 抱 怨 一 多 ， 雜 誌 換 了 新 老 闆 後 就 請 他 另 謀 高 就 。
本文 以 〈 趕 修 英 文 〉 為 題 ， 當 然 語 意 雙 關 ， 既 是 修 讀 、 也 是 修 補 。 幾 十 年 前 香 港 學 子學 英 文 ， 得 要 乖 乖 的 背 誦 「 寶 書 」 《 High School Grammar 》 ， 因 此 知 道 transitive verb 和 intransitive verb 的 分 別 。 知 道 什 麼 叫 dangling modifier 。 今 天 香 港 棄 用 「 古 法 」 ， 難 怪 在 常 見 的 英 文 書 寫 中 ， 我 看 到 不 少 像 從 Talese 小說 彈 出 來 的 斷 腿 殘 肢 。 搶 修 英 文 ， 要 從 基 礎 做 起 。

值得 我 們 注 意 的 是 ， 專 門 挑 剔 美 國 人 英 文 的 ， 有 不 少 是 「 外 國 人 」 。 像 在 老 牌 雜 誌 《 Esquire 》 寫 專 欄 的 John Simon ， 原 是 前 南 斯 拉 夫 人 ， 十 四 五 歲 才 移 民 美 國 。 到美 國 前 就 通 曉 四 種 歐 洲 語 言 ， 但 英 文 是 做 了 新 移 民 後 才 學 的 。 他 在 《 Esquire 》 寫了 三 年 稿 ， 擺 明 陣 勢 對 看 到 的 、 聽 到 的 「 墮 落 」 文 字 重 炮 轟 擊 ， 對 象 包 括 電 視 、 英語 師 協 會 、 整 天 mumble Po Mo Babble 的 大 學 授 、 黑 人 和 少 數 民 族 「 方 言 羼 雜 」 的 英 語 。
Simon 先 生 對 英 語 「 處 處 憐 芳 草 」 的 因 ， 大 概 跟 吳 魯 芹 授 差 不 多 ： 辛 苦 學 來 的 外 語 ， 猶 如 血 汗 積 蓄 下 來 的 家 當 ， 不 忍 胡 亂 蹧 蹋 。 認 識 到 Simon 這 種 心 態 ， 就 不 難 了 解 他 對 英 文 的 愛 護 ， 比 英 國 人 還 英 國 人 。 因 此 他 對 Newman 拿 「 玩 忽 」 的 口 吻 去 笑 話 美 式 英 文 各 種 不 是 ， 頗 有 微 詞 。 用 吳 授 的 原 文 說 ， Simon 認 為 「 當 一 種 美 麗 、 重 要 的 文 字 被 人 蹧 蹋 到 這 種 地 步 ， 是 不 能 用 開 玩 笑 的 態 度 去 對 付 的 ， 應 該 氣 憤 、 痛 斥 才 對 。 」
Simon 說 整 個 美 國 英 語 墮 落 的 問 題 就 像 一 個 七 層 的 大 蛋 糕 ， 底 層 是 全 國 人 民 對 文 法 的 無 知。 如 果 Talese 唸 書 時 有 過 最 基 本 的 文 法 訓 練 ， 就 不 會 寫 出 「 無 頭 公 案 」 的 句 子 。如 果 人 家 問 Simon 為 什 麼 他 對 文 字 如 此 執 ， 他 會 說 ， 語 言 文 字 是 一 種 藝 術 ， 需 要 有 靈 魂 、 精 神 和 感 染 力 。 甚 至 可 以 說 需 要 的是 一 種 「 高 貴 感 」 。 雖 然 他 口 誅 筆 伐 「 破 英 文 」 不 遺 餘 力 ， 私 底 下 他 也 知 道 ， 大 勢已 去 ， 補 天 無 術 了 。 用 他 自 己 的 話 、 魯 芹 授 的 譯 文 來 說 ： 「 文 字 語 言 的 墮 落 ， 一 如 通 貨 膨 脹 ， 通 貨 膨 脹 是 無 法 制 止 的 。 」 在 這 方 面 ， 他 比 Newman 悲 觀 多 了 。
Simon 的 思 想 是 patrician ， 貴 族 的 。 說 話 的 腔 調 像 Cassandra ， 一 天 到 晚 「 天 國 近 了 、 天 國 近 了 」 的 呼 喊 ， 難 怪 一 些 《 Esquire 》 的 讀 者 受 不 了 他 的 「 烏 鴉 嘴 」 ， 抱 怨 一 多 ， 雜 誌 換 了 新 老 闆 後 就 請 他 另 謀 高 就 。
本文 以 〈 趕 修 英 文 〉 為 題 ， 當 然 語 意 雙 關 ， 既 是 修 讀 、 也 是 修 補 。 幾 十 年 前 香 港 學 子學 英 文 ， 得 要 乖 乖 的 背 誦 「 寶 書 」 《 High School Grammar 》 ， 因 此 知 道 transitive verb 和 intransitive verb 的 分 別 。 知 道 什 麼 叫 dangling modifier 。 今 天 香 港 棄 用 「 古 法 」 ， 難 怪 在 常 見 的 英 文 書 寫 中 ， 我 看 到 不 少 像 從 Talese 小說 彈 出 來 的 斷 腿 殘 肢 。 搶 修 英 文 ， 要 從 基 礎 做 起 。

Give up
I've been using a multi-im client ever since I started using both ICQ and MSN, in order to minimize memory consumption. This multi-im client is called Miranda-im. However, this client's msn module has some problems concerning sending messages and files. So i switched to Trillian and see if it's better. This time I'm disappointed by it's buggy icq integration...
Finally I gave up and downloaded Windows Live Messenger, and it works perfectly well. But the memory usage is 50MB, comparing with Miranda-im's 5MB and Trillian's 8MB, it's huge! It's also 2 times more than Icq 2003 Pro's 16MB.
Is there a workable multi-im client available??

打完第一輪，覺得比上屆好睇。今年好多所謂弱隊都可以同強隊對攻，只係前鋒把握力弱，浪費大量機會。由第一場表現睇來，最具冠軍相的球隊係捷克同意大利。
德國第二場面對波蘭的9-0-1戰術，完全係老鼠拉龜，射門好似日本咁，冇乜邊下中目標，一係就連續中兩次楣。上一場的美妙遠射今場唔見影，令我懷疑上場表現出來的強大攻力似係虛火。點都好，補時入左一粒，總算鬆一口氣! 德國率先進入16強!!

I have played with this software for a few days and am decently surprised with its performance and functions. Picasa 2 is google's free photo management software. Its strength is certainly its ability to search and index your photos at amazing speed. Together with some basic photo editing functions, it can satisfy the needs of most normal users. It'd be perfect if the interface can make use of the tags and keywords like flickr does, I feel that it's easier to manage my photos in flickr's way.

第一次看世界盃，就是90年馬圖斯帶領西德奪冠。可能因為那件球衣，亦可能是西德奪冠給我極好印象，從此我就成為德國的支持者。若問我喜歡德國隊的什麼，眨時間，我會啞口無言。正如喜歡一個人並不需要理由，即使有，也往往是事後才賦予的。支持德國隊，並不需要理由。
德國並不只有足球。89年的溫布頓決賽，也是我看的第一場網球賽，Boris Becker 成為最年輕的溫布頓冠軍。94年一級方程式，Michael Schumacher 取得他的首次總冠軍。
說回足球，我喜愛德國隊的"自由人"多於前鋒，這個位置亦是由Beckenbauer所創，亦從此成為德國隊的特色。今年的德國隊，攻力異常強大(希望不是哥斯達尼加太弱)，大異於上屆歐洲國家盃，由Ballack單天保至尊。只可惜攻力大增的同時，防守竟比哥斯達尼加更差(哥隊只用一招就入了兩球)! 賽前本來對德國不存厚望，看見這隊煥然一新的隊伍，不禁喜出望外。希望奇哥真的有奇招可以加強防守，事成的話，今屆力足和巴西一拼!

以前住九龍城寨的時候，我都曾經為環保出過一分力，賣過不少可再造的物料。
那時候廢紙每公斤可賣五毫子，鋁罐三毫子一個，而紙皮是阿婆的頭號獵物，所以沒有多少可以給我賣。每次用車仔載十多二十公斤的廢紙，加上十多廿個鋁罐，足夠我買很多零食了。

joke: an accountant wife

I have a professional woman as my wife; a Chartered Accountant. She uses LIFO method while taking out the refrigerated food.
She thinks I am no good with numbers. Fine with me, for now she handles the budget of the house. Initially she used to send me a bill at the month end, but when I told her that I am not her client but her husband, she asks for the money in advance. The expenses had been rising steadily over the months, so one day I snooped into the papers maintained in a current file.
No wonder! She was charging mileage and overtime to the house budget. She is crazy, I tell her but she corrects me. No honey, I am the auditor. I fail to see the light.
Every scrap of the paper in our house is filed. She tells me as per some Ordinance she must keep a copy of every thing for at least ten years before destroying it. I am worried.
The other day we had an hour-long fight. Later, I got to know that she had charged that hour to a client of hers, in the time sheet. My time was put down as unoccupied.
She says that she loves me and I tell her that I love her too. However, she never believes me. She says that there is susceptibility of it being a misstatement. Duh! She wants my representation on this!
Last year our house accounts got a qualified opinion I had not kept the supporting etc. of my purchases. Not a long time back my brother's wedding was to be solemnized. Wedding cards had been sent.
After some time I started receiving a steady trickle of letters. I was puzzled until my wife explained that external evidence was more reliable. She had called for confirmations from all those to whom cards were sent.
When she cooks: my wife at times does not go by recipe. Where the recipe says add half-teaspoon vinegar,one tsp black salt or one teacup of water, she ignores them. She says that they are not material when taken in context of whole meal being prepared.
She is crazy, I tell you. Surprisingly everybody calls her an auditor, instead. I checked the dictionary and it did not state that auditor is a synonym for crazy. The dictionary must be outdated.
When we got married, she had given me an Engagement Letter and I had said how cute-how sweet. Now she gives it to me every year saying that her standards state that it must be sent a new if there is any indication that I have misunderstood the objective and scope of engagement. Huh!
Apart from sending me the engagement letter once again she says I can't get rid of her just like that. She says that she has the right of being heard before I appoint some one else.
Phew! For a minute, I thought that we had jeopardized our going concern status. Duh! Dare I say so??
I am told by one of my female colleagues who is married to a CA that the scenario is even worse when the guy is a CA. Apparently he capitalised the wedding expenses as preliminary expenses and is writing it off every year. Also the time he spent dating his wife before marrying her is still under consideration for valuation...valuation of intangible assets.
So guyz please think twice....should u really marry a CA? and yes please discount it by the appropriate rate to arrive at the present value of the risk of doing so !!!!!!!

Happiness
Today in MTR, a little girl played crazily with her dad. The girl has a beautiful blonde hair and they appear to speak Russian. She rubbed and squeezed her dad's head happily when he was trying to read a book, apparently forcing him to play with her. Her laughter drew our attention, and we were wearing a smile whilst she was having fun. Laughter is contagious. And so is happiness. Maybe it's the easiest way to be happy.

上莊
大學怪談提到上莊 mark sponsor 的問題。當時上莊的思維，的確像是誰mark 得多 sponsor, 或找到有頭有面的 sponsor, 就是最大的成就。而活動本身辦成怎樣，有沒有達到目的，全成了次要的問題。

中西飲食業職工會主席陳偉麟指出，由工會及商會組成的資歷架構培訓諮詢委員會，剛於去年完成《能力標準說明》草擬本，待有關法例通過便可推行。有關標準訂明，第二級能力的主任級員工，只需要懂得基本中式飲食業銷售常用的普通話及英語，例如懂聽懂講「叉燒飯」及「茶」詞語招呼客人。
不過，統局上月發放由職訓局撰寫的《通用（基礎）能力》諮詢文件，其要求之高卻令業界側目。只有小學程度的福樓飲食集團人事行政副總監陳興國，入行已有四十年，他慨嘆現今入行人數很少，但政府對僱員仍設下重重關卡，會扼殺香港「美食天堂」美譽。育統籌局回應業界的指摘時解釋，《通用（基礎）能力標準說明》與行業訂立的能力標準相輔相成，除非員工有意轉行，否則不會硬性要求員工學懂標準內所有技能和要求。

Dim Sum
In Discovery Travel & Living channel, city hall's maxim is introduced as one of the best dim sum restaurant in HK. Is the best dim sum in gweilo's eyes different from our's? Hmm... maybe I should try it one day.

It's always good to see these cute and loyal friends. What a pity that HK is not a dog-friendly city, there are too many places that dogs cannot enter. And I also believe it's cruel to keep them in a small flat with little room for them to play and run.
Somehow, I think I like dogs more than human.

Noise?
In my sister's recently-moved-in-apartment, strange noise is often heard from the upper floor. At first, I guess it's the noise produced by the water pipes, but it's quite different from what I heard in other places. My sister, using her unique intuition, suggests that the noise is the sound of a walking dog! OK. The noise really sounds like the pace of a dog. But if we can hear the footsteps of a dog, how come we cannot hear the footsteps of the residents? Weird!

How about achieving 103% or even 118%.
Here's a little mathematical formula that might help you answer these questions:

信報月刊今期又訪問這位"青樓名妓"，不過今次的內容頗對我的胃口。他退出商界後，全力做義務工作，亦大力推動教育；每天都要運動、讀書和思考，以後還要到世界各地住三個月至半年，體驗當地文化，這些都和我將來想做的一樣。根據他所說，他是在96-98年樓市泡沫期間賺得第一桶金，從而獲得財務自由。這樣的機會真是可遇不可求，不知我的機會，何時才會來到?

Pride and Prejudice
1. I always want to read this famous novel of Jane Austen from the beginning to the end, but for various reasons, I never finish it.
2. I couldn't imagine how this movie would be like without the excellent acting of Keira Knightley. And of course, she's the reason why I can't wait to watch it.
3. When Mrs. Bennet and Lizzie's younger sisters were discussing about who married a richer man, I found this scene similar to those in HK's movies and TV dramas. Seems that "to marry a rich man" is always a popular topic for love stories.
4. There's a fight between Lizzie and her father on allowing Lydia to go to a ball. Mr. Bennet didn't really care about the future of Lydia, but he supported Lizzie when she rejected the proposal of her cousin. Lizzie apparently received much more love than her younger sisters.
5. Misunderstanding and prejudice appear to be more harmful than pride and arrogance in this movie. Maybe it simply because I couldn't feel the arrogance of Mr. Darcy.

Power of Consumerism
An ordinary form 3 girl becomes an envy of her friends after she's offered a VIP card of VW. It really surprised me that luxury brands like VW and Burberry were so popular among them, and they couldn't wait to pour thousands or more dollars into the brands.
I'm not sure if it's good for her to keep this habit as long as she's happy with her trophies, but I'm sure the economy will benefit from people like her.

Cartoon War
Isn't it ludicrous for the European press to support the Danish newspaper by republishing the cartoon, in the name of defending Freedom of Speech? I can't see why a cartoon, which humiliates/insults muslim, can gain the full support from them. It seems that by using Freedom of Speech as the mighty shield, we shouldn't condemn any insulting act. To the contrary, we should support it to defend our freedom. Respect? Goto hell!

2. Fortunately I managed to squeeze to the head of the crowd.
3. It's a special experience to run with so many ppl.
4. One or two runners brought their tripod and DSLR camera with them, posing to take pictures in front of the West Harbour Tunnel.
5. A few couples held their hands whilst running... to celebrate V-day?!
6. I got stomachache after I passed the tunnel.
7. Muscular runners are not necessarily good runners.
8. Met some friends after the race.
9. The cheering team has done a really good job.
10. The bottleneck of the day was on the way from Golden Bauhinia to Wan Chai Stadium.
